How do I install a D1000 on Solaris 9 E4500 ? 1

I've been switching cables and moving terminators and "boot -r" and probe-scsi-all, and I'm out of guesses...

I've connected the D1000 w/12 73 GB drives with a terminator on Bus B, a cable connection bus A & B, and a 3 foot cable from bus A to the QLGC UW interface on the E4500. I'm at the OBP and run probe-scsi-all and it sees the QLGC interface, but never lists any drives under it. Is there something special I'm missing here ? Can someone briefly list the steps for a trouble free install ?

Hi, I had similar trouble when connecting my D1000 and E4500. The D1000 uses a differential scsi bus which must be connected to the differential bus on the E4500. Differential Scsi Buses also require a special differential terminator which should have come with the D1000. Try connecting Differential Bus 1 on the E4500 to the first Scsi port A on the D1000. Then use the small loop cable to connect the second Scsi port A to the first Scsi port B. Then use the differential terminator to terminate the second Scsi port B.

Wow! Good question, I don't know what kind of terminator we were using. I'll double check and let you know.

On a second note, do you happen to know the model number of a diff-bus card for a 4500 ? We are planning on adding more to this box for redundancy so we can have a second path to the other D1000s.

A dual channel High Voltage Differential Controller (PCI ) to connect A1000 is the X6541A I assume the D1000 uses the same controller.

The scsi card have 2 ports port A and port B. You connected your D1000 to port A and the scsi terminator connected port B.
You should have software from Sun called Raid Manager 6.22(Sun Blade cd).I used that software to detect D1000 storage on Solaris 8.

Install all the package
# pkgadd -d /cdrom/raid_manager/6_22/Product
