How do I go back to the MS JVM?

I recently reinstalled Windows ME on my system. As you may know, WinME comes with IE 5.5. At first I thought something was wrong because I couldn't upgrade to IE 6 sp 1 immediately. I got around this by upgrading to IE 5.5 sp 2 and then I could do the jump to IE 6 sp 1.

HOWEVER, now none of the sites I visit that need Java (specifically the MS JVM) will work. I have downloaded the Sun 1.4.2 JRE, but that doesn't work for the sites I visit.

I have since uninstalled IE 6 sp 1 in the hopes to get the MS JVM back. No such luck. I have got the install file msjavx86.exe and have tried many times to reinstall the MS JVM, but all I am getting is frustrated.

Does anyone know how to get the MS JVM working again? I know that MS has promised support until Sept 2004, but don't expect to get support from because they are all talk and no action.

I'm hoping someone here might be more knowledgeable and helpful. Please ... anyone?

In IE, click Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab. Scroll down to where you find the Java (Sun) line and un-chekc it.
Close all IE windows and try agan, that should do it.

Sorry, but it didn't. I ended up finding a link on a different message thread. I was able to download the actual MS JVM installer from download.microsoft.com and after installing it, then I was back up and running.

Believe me. I tried all the options that Microsoft gives on their web site. The stupid JVM just wasn't there. So I appreciate all the smart people here at tek-tips that can help me keep my PC purring. (or maybe that is just the sound of my power supply)

oh, your MS JVM was gone, I thought you already installed it.
But your problem is solved, and that's what matters.

Thanks for helping - getting the problem solved is the end result that we all hope for. Whatever I had that I was installing was NOT the MSJVM. I hope it wasn't a virus. I scanned it, but anymore you can't be too careful.
