Hey Unix Gurus of the world, I am new to the Unix area and was wondering what would be a good area to focus on to get Unix certified. I went to Barnes and Noble and was looking for a Unix certification book, but in the end found no such book. Is there such thing as a straight up Unix certification, if not what is a good area in today’s market to focus on. Thanks a lot to whoever responds to my inquiry.

you can get certified by ringing up certain people and saying 'i'm a cabbage' a lot till they put the phone down ...

after trying this for about 2 months (if not before) you might get taken away by people in white coats ...

Jad...

That was *beautiful* thank you...

Love,
Napoleon!

I am NaPOleON!

No matter what those men with the white coat with the sleves in the back say...

I was contacted a year ago by SCO and they wanted me to certify by taking the course on line. I don't know if they still have the availability but it might be an alternative. I thought at the time that is was a reasonable price and it could be done at your own pace.*:->*

I have SCO Unix and Linux Skills tests online (free) at

Although I really never intended that these be used in preparation for certification, I have had several people tell me that they used them to test their knowledge prior to taking the cert exams and did find them helpful.

If not, at least the price is right :)

Hi,

I think the first step you should take is to decide which flavor of Unix you want to work on. There are about 84 different flavors of Unix and the popular ones are Sun Solaris, HPUX, AIX, Sco and Linux. After deciding which Unix to get certified in you can find relvevant information at their web sites. If you have any difficulty in finding this information, let me know i can tell you the sites.

regards,
