I would appreciate your assistance on how to FTP to a PC/Server sitting behind a DSL router. It is common that the DSL router assigns a private address to the PC and that these addresses are not valid on the Internet. How do I find out the public address I need in order to make an FTP connection.

Thank you.

Port forwarding is the answer here. You need to forward all incoming requests on port 21 (FTP) to a private IP address on your network. i.e. the Server on your internal network.

You'll need to log in to the web interface on your DSL router and look for port forwarding or NAT.
