How do I extend a striped volume using a new set of disks in LVM 1

I have a 4 colume stripe in LVM and currently use all of the available PPs in the VG. Is it possible to add 4 new disks to the VG and grow the striped volume using the new disks? I can do this with VxVM and was hoping LVM (AIX) would would have the same fuctionality.

Judging from this note on the extendlv man page:

When extending a striped logical volume only the striping width (disks striped across) is used. If there is not enough partitions on the physical volumes, used for this striped logical volume, the extend of the logical volume fails.

probably not without a backup, destroy, create, restore approach.
