I'm running Fedora 8 x64, and when I get to the login screen, my Num Lock is always off.

1. How do I make Num Lock turn on automatically?
2. Why would anyone ever want Num Lock off?

1. There's bound to be a package called "numlockx". You'll have to install it and put the appropriate settings in xorg.conf.

2. To make keyboards usable on laptops, I guess.

Well that really sucks...
You'd think Linux would leave Num Lock alone since most BIOS's have a setting to enable/disable Num Lock when you boot up.
Thanks, I guess I'll add this to the list of things that annoy me about Linux. :-(
