hello friends, I'm evaluating Attachmate as a screen-scraping tool for my 5250 sessions, and I wonder if anyone could clue me on this ... what I need to know is:

From a VB application, can I:

1. launch a 5250 session, passing the login info (previously input) to the session, so that users don't have to double login ?

2. pass along other parameters, such as customer number, so that the 5250 program would navigate to the correct record ?

3. most important, map a certain screen position (ex: line 10, columns 12-20), capture it as TXT and pull it back into my VB fields ?

Any help would be terrific ... tks for your time.

Jim

Did you ever solve your issue here? If not re-post and I have some examples for you.

Ati2ude/Brian, I'd be very interested in your examples please. I used to have a macro in Extra which screenscraped a long host output so that only the selected, appropriate parts of the screen were appended as the output was paged down, with the data written to Notepad. The company I'm with now has Rally, not Extra, and I can't find how to do this in Rally. I'd hope to be able to modify an Extra macro if you (or anyone else) can help.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Mark,
Rally is totally different animal. Depending on which version you are using it used DDE to communicate. What you need to determine is the Server Name and Topic that DDE needs for the communication. Once you have those you can establish a connection and read anything you want from the emulator. Hope that helps.

Hi,

I took your advice and got as far as a new demo, at which point I had to choose one of the existing PSS demo files (the sample e-mail application).

Is there any way to create my own custom demo? I'd like to mock something up that lends itself to scraping a bit more
