How do I display the balance of an account in Access 2010?

If I have a table with deposits, withdrawals and have a starting balance how do I have a present balance in a form that takes into account what the previous balance in the previous row of the column was like I could in Excel for instance?

Please provide sample records with significant fields and values and identify what values you would like to see calculated. Also, does the recordset need to allow edits?

How are ya sircles . . .

Have a look at faq702-5248. The code can be tailored for your needs.

I'm looking at this as if you want to do the equivalent of bank statements ... where [blue]the current statement starts off with the ending balance of the prior statement.[/blue] If so, the trick is to get the [blue] previous balance[/blue] to be the 1st record ... espcially if a sort order is involved. This can be done with a Date or perhaps some index.

You should also consider some means of identifying the previous balance. A description field would be a good candidate for this.

Well I am very pleased to say that using this method I have got it working.

I was hoping to move this database to the web using access services on sharpeoint but it seems that this function is incompatible with being on the web and so I am now going to use RDGAteway for our database as it is currently working well.

The modern rapid development systems built into MS products are amazing - I cannot program on any level really and yet got this working very quickly!
