does anyone know how to bypass/disable the power-on password on an ibm 7043-43p model 140, that is running aix 4.3.3? here what i have tried to no avail:
1. tried booting from cdrom
2. moved jumper 90 to the rightmost pins
3. removed the battery for more than 30 seconds
4. moved jumper 21 to the leftmost pins
at this point, the system goes directly to the power-on password screen. it does not allow me to get to cde. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
joe

Im not exactly sure, but have you tried corrupting the NVRAM?

maybe you have to letf it there (after 90 moved to the two rightmost pins)

probably you had used the same guide and there is written:"

J90 Power-On Password Default: power-on password enabled
(can be set).
To disable the power-on password (for
instance, if it has been forgotten), place
jumper on the two rightmost pins.

ogniemi,

yes, i have tried what you suggested before this post, but thanks for your reply.

FrankieAIX,

how do i corrupt the NVRAM? i am willing to try just about anything right now b/c the box is just one big paper weight right now!

Thanks,
joe

Very easy, attach a console to the back of the system on on the S1 port, power on the box, in a few minutes you will hear a few very faint beeps as soon as you do hit any key on the keyboard to interrupt the boot, you will get a prompt enter 80214 and hit Enter follow the menus to corrupt the NVRAM and hopefully you should be good... The beeps come fast so listen carefully..

FrankieAIX,

i tried the console at S1, but i did not get a display. I am not sure if the console i have is good or bad, but i will try to verify its functionality. i will also try S2 later next week. i found a redbook, so i hope that helps too.

thanks,
joe
