I am familiar with Data Wahrehousing/Marts and OLAP and a few tools used to work with it - I want to make sure I understand what needs to be done when designing the original database.

I really can't see anything that needs to be done differently. The Data Warehouse or Mart will incorporate all of the needed fields and formulas that will allow for successful OLAP use as far as I can see.

I may be missing the forest for the trees - but what would the dba do differently with the design of the database when anticipating OLAP use?

Thanks!
Cody ford
codyford@yahoo.com

VB, VBS, Seagate Info/Crystal Reports
Cody, you are right that the OLAP tools will be running on top of a data mart. You might find that some OLAP tools like using pure star schemas and your warehouse/mart may have a more complex design. There may also be considerations with how to store hierarchy information.

<a href= home
