I need to configure the linux setup so that every time it starts it will bring up an x-terminal in each workground and start one specific program i have installed. Can someone tell me what config files i might need to look at? thanks.

Look in /usr/X11 there should be a .xinitrc file. Also, if you're using GNOME try the Gnome toolbox, it has a dialog that can setup applications to start after your x-sessions have started.
