How do I customize apache access log files?

I'm no expert on apache but I do understand some stuff about it. I've been processing the access log files by downloadling it from a linux box every month. I noticed the access_log keeps on growing. now its on its 2gig. Its very tideous to download it every month. Can anybody help me customize it monthly without appending the log to a single file rather it would be great if its place in a log file per month.

I recommend you start a new access log each month. Basically, stop the server, rename the file, restart the server. Each month's data is then in a new file.

Some Linuxes have the logrotate system which can automate the process for you. ______________________________________________________________________
