How do I create a link?

Sorry this might sound like a stupid question but I really hope someone will be able to answer it for me.

OK I have my XML file with a tag called LINK
<LINK>

http://www.comet.co.uk/webapp/comme...816&main_cgrfnbr=2170806&main_catname=/<LINK>

(that is an actual link)

but this gives me an error. How do I get over this? I thought about including it in the XSL but I need the links to be language specific so they have to be included in the XML file.
