how do I count the number of occurances

I just ran "vutil -unload -t filename1 filename1.txt"

how do I read only the first five characters of each line of the text file and generate an output file that will only show me each word that appears once and the number of times it occured.

Whatever | cut -c 1-5 | sort | uniq -c | sort +0n

All the words which occur only once will be at the top of the list.
