I installed the vpn client and profile on my home computer. When I log in to the dialer, it accepts my password and connects. The vpn dialer then minimizes in my system tray and then I'm lost. How do I connect to my company network after that? What do I need to do on my home computer side? I'm new to VPN so any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

When you are referring to your dialer, are you using some sort of software dialer program to establish internet access.

Have you entered your domain's external IP address, do you know any of your servers IP address.

Please give me some more details. Your companies IT department should have gave you the proper instructions on how to establish a connection.

I'm talking about the VPN dialer. This dialer already has the connection entry in it, as well as the ip address of the remote server I'm trying to connect to. When I use this dialer, it prompts me for my username and password, and then it authenticates and connects. It then minimizes in my system tray. When I click the little icon in the system tray, it tells me that I'm connected. WHAT am I connected to? When I go into network neighborhood, I only see the computers on MY home network. Is there something that I need to do to my local ip settings and gateway?

You are trying to browse network resources while connected. However, the way that you are going about it will not work unless your home computer is setup as a client on the network. For example, if you were to take your office computer home, install a vpn client and then connect to your company, you would probably see your domain and resources.

What you need to do is map the network drives that you need access to from your home PC when you are connected via VPN.

Simply open MY Computer, click on the tools menu, select Map Network Drive, select a driver letter and type the path the the network resource.

Eg. if you had a shared folder on a server at work that you needed access to you would do the following.

Suppose the server name is RIG and the shared folder is Public, the path you would enter when mapping the drive would be: \\RIG\Public

After you hit Finish you will be asked for your username and password again to make the connection.

Thanks for your help. I just needed someone to explain it to me in PLAIN english! You did and I thank you!
