i'm having a problem getting my server online. i have open a port in the firewall and give the server and ip address. but i can't get online. i have not used apache before and i'm only starting to just linux after years of using windows. It is a sun linux server and the software was pre-installed on it. I thought it was only a matter of giving the server and ip address and it would be online. i was wondering do i have to confic my apache and if i do how do u config it? i know this may sound easy for someone that has used linux for a long time but i'm only coming round to it now after year of windows use. if anyone can help me please help. thanks

Not to come down on you but if you post for help generaly people need to know OS version and software version of program(s) you are working with. The more information you post makes it more easy to help you resolve the problem. The two thing I can think of of the bat are the ServerName and Listen Directives. Have you defined them in your httpd.conf? To find your httpd.conf file do
cd /
find . -name httpd.conf

Hope this helps

Also, test your httpd.conf file by running: apachectl configtest

This will show you any port overlap or syntax errors that might be in your configuration file.
