I have been creating technical manuals for electronics that involve a lot of pictures. I create a folder where I store the pictures in subfolders by chapter of the manual and place the pictures/link into the manual. My work is freelance and so I do it all on a laptop. When complete, I have to upload the entire folder to the company server so that they can keep it along with the .pdf for printing.

My question is: can I move this folder without having to fix every single link in the manual? I believe that other programs such as quark allow you to do this, but I can't figure out how to do it in Indesign. This is a pain as the last manual had over 600 pictures in it and the one that I am about to begin will likely have even more. I don't want to have to manually relocate and fix every single picture link.

File menu/Package. That will create a whole new folder with links, fonts, document. All images will be in a links folder within the new folder, properly associated with the document.

If you want you can create a pdf and insert it in that same new folder. Then upload that. Everything will be fine. Just remember to preflight the thing before packaging it.
