MS installed some updates on my machine last night.

When I plugged in a flash drive this morning it had suddenly developed a read only constraint (reason unknown). Using Windows Explorer I right-clicked on the drive name for Propertiesand was presented with an entirely new interface. Exploring this interface I could find no place where I could change that attribute. I have a useless Flash Drive.

Does someone have a solution for this?

Thanks

So, it HAD been working where you could write files to it and then boom, no worky?

Read this, it may just be dead.

I thought our little wild time had just begun.

A few suggestions:

First, Restart your computer. See if you have the same problem after rebooting. If so:

Take your flash drive to another computer and try it. Maybe you have one at work or to a friend's house. If it works, then copy (temporarily) those files to that computer. (Or to a 2nd flash drive)

That will help you see if the problem is the flash drive, or if it's your computer.

I looked on my flash drive and I don't see an option for Read Only, either.

I do see an option for Update Driver. You might try this option.

If this works on another computer, and you get your files from your flash drive, (assuming you have any there) you could try Reformatting the flash drive.

Also, let us know the make/model/size of the flash drive.

Is there a readonly button on the side of your flash drive? Some of the older (from about 10 years ago) flashdrives have a slider switch that puts them into readonly mode.
