Hello,
I would like to figure out how I change an objects(text box, combo box, labels, lines, etc.) default settings so I don't have to do it each time I create the object on a form.
My system is XP, using Access 2010 in Access 2007 format (don't ask me why).
When I create the object and click on the crossed hammer and wrench icon nothing happens. no response, nothing, it becomes enabled and disabled like it should but nothing happens.

Thanks in Advance,
Joel009

You can place a control on your form, do things like deleting the automatically created label for it, or format it in a given way, then, with the control selected, go to the Format Menu and click on Set Control Defaults.

Each time thereafter that this type of control is placed on the form, it will be formatted in that same way.

Sadly, this only applies to that particular form. On a new form you'd have to repeat this. You could create a template form, doing this kind of thing for all the commonly used controls, then use the form as the basis for all future forms.

If you go to the control on the toolbar and click it, then you go click on the PROPERTIES button, you will get the default properties for that control in the properties dialog (The caption should show you something like: TEXT BOX DEFAULT PROPERTIES if you clicked on the text box button). You can then change any you wish. Exit the properties dialog to save.

It looks like what I gave isn't the complete answer. I know that there was a way to set the application level defaults for the objects but I just can't remember what it was.

Thanks to all. Hi Aceman, long time no see. I was on a forced excercise in retirement (WFR April 23 2010) and I kinda liked it but I got 10 more years to work. Contracting for legacy Accees (any version) and VB6 may get me there!!!
Great job everyone, thanks for the inout. This is an exampl of my coming back up to speed in developing in Access 2010 in Access 2007 format. Tek-Tips is the greatest!!!

No, you said it this way:
In form design view call up the properties window.
Select the object you desire from the toolbar and you should see the title bar of the properties window change to show your viewing the defaults.
Which, of course is the same thing but stated in a different way. Sometimes someone else stating it in a slightly different manner helps someone grasp the concept. I see that quite a lot.

Both ideas are great and Bob has a point. I found TheAceMan's suggestions worked. Bob - when I tried your method I could not find the Properties but just now I found the Properties Sheet button and that was it. Thanks to both of you.
