Sorry in advance of maybe this lame question but I am new to Lotus Notes.
An employee has left the company without anyone knowing his lotus notes password. Is there anywhere where I can change his password to something that we know?

Depends on what version of Notes you have and whether you have made provisions for this kind of thing.

But if you are a Notes Admin, and you have access to the Domino server, you can just give yourself access locally on the server to his mail file, for example, using the access control list. Then you would not require his Notes ID.

I am using Notes v4

I can access the mail from the server with no problems and I can grant access through the ACL to allow other users to add it to their workspace, but in this particular instance it would have been better to change the password.

It remains for me to ask the question:
What happens if a user forgets their password. What can I do?

Thanks

The one thing that I always do is keep a copy of the user ID (in a safe, secure place - in other words, locked up!)that is set to a default password (and it isn't something like "password"). That way, if either the user leaves and you need to reset a password, or the user forgets the password, you as the Notes Admin can simply replace the ID and have them change the password (I hate to have to say this, but do this without handing over your default password!)
This can be difficult in a large organization, but in a smaller one it works fine. The other thing you will have to remember is that if you keep the original ID, and at some point the user has their ID recertified, and then you need to replace it with the original ID you've kept, you will have to recertify the older ID.

good luck
