I have a user who is asking me how much time is allowed for her mailbox. I can Right-Click on Maximum mailbox size and it gives me information based on GSM Blocks. Doing the math indicates that she has approx. 680 mins. available.

My confusion is that when viewing Audio Encoding within Voicemail System Configuration, we are set to use G.711, not GSM.

Would anyone know the correct way to figure this out? I don't want to make an incorrect assumption.

Thanks!

Maximum Mailbox Size: Specify the maximum size of the mailbox for a subscriber assigned this class-of-service. Select the unit of measurement, then type a value. The default value is 16.41 Mbyte, which is 174 minutes with GSM encoding or 35 minutes with G.711 encoding. If the subscriber sends and receives many large messages, including long voice messages or email with large attachments, increase this value. The maximum for this field is 64 Mbytes.

The seconds/Mbyte conversion depends on which audio encoding format you have configured on your system. GSM encoding equates to 636 seconds/Mbyte. G.711 encoding equates to 131 seconds/Mbyte. The storage difference for voice messages is approximately a factor of 5. There is no storage difference related to fax, email, or file attachments. For more information about configuring the audio encoding format, search the documentation CD for encoding.
