I am trying to upgrade our servers to W2K. I want to introduce a 2000 server into the mix. When I do, it comes up as just a member server. In order to make it a domain controller, I believe I need to install Active Directory. When I try, it says that the domain is not currently an active directory domain. DUH!! I don't want to have to create a whole new domain, but it's starting to look like that's my only option. I have 6 servers to do and would like to do them one at a time if I can. I've looked in books, but they're not helping me. Thanks!! Please e-mail me.

Email not a good idea as only YOU learn. Plus you didn't leave your address...

Stick a production server up as a BDC. Get it sync'd to the domain with the accounts. Then turn it off.

Take PDC and upgrade to 2k. DCPromo. Get settled. Then upgrade each server as you go.

Done it and it is smooth...

Sorry about the e-mail issue. I was unaware.

Am I going to have to change my domain name? Currently it is Dover. Will I have to change it to dover.gov or something like that? I'm trying to avoid having to visit every PC in my domain.

Thanks
