How do I access a richtextbox in another application?

The application uses a richtextbox control that streams text. I wish to write a program to capture that text so I can save it to a txt or rtf file. What activeX (I'm assuming it would be activeX) methods to I need to use to access the richtextbox control in the other app? My VB is very limited so far, making only stand alone apps that don't access any other apps. If I knew the methods to use I might be able to go from there tho. I can find the hWhnd fine, i just dont know what else to use to hook the control. (If hook is the right term)

Could anyone shed some light on this please?
