how do fix faded out screen

all of a sudden my screen on my laptop is barely visible. no hardware, software, or settings changes have been made -it just booted up really dim.

any suggestions?

Compaq Armada running W2K

A dim screen could be caused by either a bad back light, inverter, inverter cable, MB, toggle switch, toggle switch board, or could be heat related. A repair shop can determine which one is the culprit.

thanks, talked to my repair guy and it is the board on the back of the screen - dropped it off this morning.
