I have a program(database) that was written for my business using Corel Paradox 8. I am told that the runtime files can be changed to work on XP Pro SP3. How difficult would it be to get this database to work on XP and/or would I need to purchase a newer version of Corel ie. Corel Paradox 13 for this to work on XP Pro SP3? Thanks, in advance, for your help with this matter.

There is no way to know, really, without contacting the developer or jumping into a LOT of questions.
Can you not ask the developer?

Do you have the 'source' programming/screen/print files (.rsl, .fsl, .ssl, .lsl) or only the 'delivered' versions of those files (.rdl, .fdl, .sdl, .ldl)?

Does it use an SQL system, or local Paradox tables?

This would be a start if you can answer these. But whether you have someone who can do all the work necessary to move the program to a new system is probably the most critical thing to answer.

As far as the 'runtime files changed', whether that is true or not depends on what you have and what the person who said that intended to say. Again, no way to know without some of the above questions - and likely several others.

At least you aren't asking about moving to Vista.

I have migrated Corel 8 through multiple desktops including one with XP with few problems. I would suggest, however, that getting 10 or 13 might be worth your while. There seems to be increased stability beginning with 10, but it could be my imagination.
I use 11 on XP and Vista with few problems. It just terminates badly in Vista and refuses to change the working directory without changes to the registry in XP. These are, however, local files.

I have migrated applications from Paradox 7 to Paradox 9, 10, and X3, using Windows 95, ME, XP and Vista and have never had to change any of the tables, forms or reports. There are a number of things in Paradox that have never worked, but if they worked in 7, they still work. I am now running the same applications using Paradox 10 on an XP system, and X3 on XP and Vista systems. I just changed motherboards on my XP Pro system and reinstalled the operating system and now Paradox looses the directory settings and preferences every time I shut down the system. But once I reset the preferences, everything works.

I neglected to say that mine is a single user environment. Pretty common with 8.
