Our setup:

Merlin Legend R7 v10
Slot
#1 008
#2 008
#3 008
#4 400
#5 008
#6 800
#7 012
#8 012
#9 012
#10 012
#11 408
#12 016
#13 408
#14 408
#15 800
#16 016
#17 016 MLX

We'd like to remove two 408 cards, slot 13 & 14, and replace with them with MLX 16 cards. These 408 cards are only being used for station ports, no truck lines. Our trunk lines are all coming in on the other cards.

I only handle the basics of the switch, so this is a more complicated job than I want to undertake. I've called around and asked a couple companies that provide Merlin programming but I can't seem to find anyone interested.

My question: How complicated of a job is this? Is this tricky or time consuming that would cause a programmer to turn the job away?

It's not that complicated (but somewhat time consuming), however, it will affect the trunk numbering of the 800 card in slot 15 and the station numbering of the two 016 cards in slots 16 and 17. You could move the 800 card to slot 13 and install the new 016 mlx cards in slots 14 and 15, eliminating any trunk programming, but you will still need to renumber/reprogram any existing stations working in slots 16 and 17. My guess is you're looking at several hours worth of work, I can't imagine why someone would turn down the work :)

I'm not sure if this can be done, but maybe someone can validate my logic.

Move the 800 module to slot 13 to eliminate the trunk reprogramming as suggested. Then in 14 put an 016MLX. That will now have your existing 16 ports from the previous 408 cards in it.

Now move cards 16 and 17 into slots 15 and 16. Now install the other 016MLX into slot 17.

Hope this works/helps...

Good eye kris. Re-looking at the original message, the only potential problem I see in adding the new 016 module is the placement of a fourth high density module in one carrier. As I recall, there is a limit of 3 per module. If you set up as

....
#11 016 MLX
#12 408 MLX
#13 800 LS/GS
#14 016 MLX
#15 016 MLX
#16 016 MLX
#17 SPARE

Move the trunks from slot 11 tp slot 12, move MLX patch cords accordingly, and in theory, no programming. It's a bit late so I may be hallucinating but I believe this should work. I'll trust your 'good eye' again :)
