How did we get Cool Web Search in the first place

I have a user that has the CWS(CoolWebSearch) infection. From time to time he gets into something like this and I always get the "I don't know how it happened". I can find a ton of info on CWS but can't seem to find how a person gets it in the first place.

Can anyone shed some lite, or are the possible sources too numerous?

The possible sources are too numerous. But, check for things such as P2P software, weather alerting software from untrusted sources, etc. It might provide some help. If that fails, I would suspect that the user is inadvertedly or purposefully surfing to sites they shouldn't, the ActiveX control installs and runs and boom, they have CWS.
