Sorry about the vague subject, but I couldn't think of a better one without going overboard.

Take a look at the first google search result here.

There are additional links provided for their site below the usual description:

Top Picks 10k and Under - Site Map - New Programs - New Voices

How did they do this?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think this is it (I could be wrong). The reason I'm saying this is because the site in question is competition for one of my SEO clients which has a google site map... however it could take a while to take effect. It has been two or three months since we made their site map.

Thanks for the response smah... I didn't think of that. I hope your right!

Looking at the URLs for those links they are all refering to something within Google itself, then being redirected.

So my guess is either they are some kind of extension to Google's advertsing programs (hmm, not likely), something to do with Sitemaps (perhaps a beta service?) or something to do with "Related" results as defined by Google in their SERPS.

It's interesting though and I'm trying to find out more.

I found a few other links basically to similar questions and with similar answers given.

It seems it's "just Google". Probably testing something or perhaps tying the extra links into Ad campaigns.

Are you checking for results that return your client's site as the #1 result? I have only seen this on the very first result shown, so if you are not first then you may not see it. I could be wrong though.

Hope this helps

I hope this isn't random beta testing, but thanks for the link. It seems as if everyone is pushing on the sitemap... and I do seem to remember additional options or something (I didn't set it up). I will delve into this further and post back any answer I may find.

Thanks for the 3 votes on the sitemap!

BTW:

I confirmed that this doesn't occur when the site is the first result on Google.

I don't think it's Sitemap alone. Perhaps a combination of Sitemap and an other information.

There are some documents on Google's help about "related" data being returned in the SERPS but it just said that the Related flag was a Boolean which wouldn't really account for what you are seeing.

I am inclined to think they are testing something and either picking random sites based on particular info they can cross reference internally.

I'm not sure that made sense, but I know what I mean ;-)
