I'm really embarrassed having to ask this question as I'm a programmer and can usually find this information easily. I'm doubly embarrassed because my girlfriend's computer used to do this (open a new IE window when you single left click on a link) and somehow I managed to disable this feature on her computer and can't switch it back now. She says that she doesn't believe that I'm a programmer and thinks that I go off and sit in park and read newspapers during the day and don't go to work.

So the question is:
How do you open a new IE window when you single left click on a link on the page? What setting do I need to change? I think the computer's running IE 5.0

Many thanks
Guy

Hyperlinks don't work

First, try setting IE5 as your default browser. Go to IE tools/internet options/programs and
turn on the check box for IE to check if it is the default browser. Shut down and restart IE.
When it asks to be default browser, say yes.

If the above do not work , repair IE .

Try choice 2 .

W95 you have 3 choices . With W98 , if you have IE5.1 or higher & you
still have IE4 installed the following applies . No IE4 only 2 choices .
IE5.5 if over the top of 5.1 , offers 3 choices .

You can install IE5.1 straight over 4 . A big feature with IE5 is that
it can be repaired without uninstalling . Here is how to do it . Open
Control Panel , Add / Remove , click on Microsoft Internet Explorer ,
then click on add / remove down the bottom . This opens a window with
3 choices .

Choice 1. Add , insert your IE5 install program & you can find other
items you may not have installed 1st time .

Choice 2. Repair , fixes problems that may crop up with IE5 / Outlook

Choice 3. If unfixable , removes IE5 & goes back to IE4 , now if you
want to you can reinstall IE5 or a later version or another browser
altogether .

No Microsoft Internet Explorer in Control Panel !
Start > Run , key in msinfo32 and press Enter . Click on Tools > IE Repair Tool or Start >
Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information . Click on Tools > IE Repair Tool .

Internet Explorer Repair tool from a command prompt:
Click Start , and then click Run .
In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK :
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
NOTE : This command is case sensitive.

W2000 > Start > Run
then enter exactly (case/space-sensitive)
rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance
this will give you the IE Repair dialog... proceed to repair IE
