That sounds like a more suitable job for the parallel port at least if my assumption that you want to drive a relais/switch is correct).

You can buy a null modem cable, or simply:

connect pin 2 from port one to pin 3 of port 2, then connect pin 3 from port one and connect ot pin 2 of port 2.
