Is there a way to open an XML file in Word 2007 and show the raw code instead of the data as formatted by the "Data only" view? I want to view the code like I would in any text editor.

I even tried changing the file extension to ".txt" and Word still applied it's data view to the file. I find this to be very annoying.

And yes, I do normally use an actual code/text editor (HTML-Kit) to handle XML files. I still want to be able to view the raw code from within Word 2007.

Never mind, I found the answer to my question. It's in regard to HTML, but it applies to XML as well.

To view and edit the source in Word you'd need to reopen the HTML file in Word after turning on the Word option to
[x] Confirm Word file format conversion on open
(Alt, T, O, A then scroll down to the 'General section')
and when you open the Word HTML file choose
'Plain text'
as the file type.

Hi PPettit,

Here's another way that applies to all the new Office 2007 formats: simply change the file extension 'zip' and open the file with any zip viewer (even Windows Explorer on Vista). The Office 2007 files are actually compressed zip archives.

Cheers
