I want to use SWAT to set up a "public" folder. That is, I want anyone to have read-only access to the folder, without logging in to my Linux machine. I prefer to use SWAT to do this (though I could also just edit the smb.conf file, if needed). I cannot figure out from the SWAT help what I need to do. A few specific questions related to what I should enter in the share parameters:
1 - what should I put in "guest account"? Is "guest" correct? If so, do I need to set up a guest account, and how do I do this? The help says " Typically this user will exist in the password file, but will not have a valid login". I don't understand what this means.
2 - Should I set create mask = 0444 to make the folder read-only for everyone?

There is a sample smb.conf, which has lines like "writable = yes" and "public = yes". Why don't I find "writable" and "public" in the SWAT options.

Help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
