How can I use my number pad in VI? 2

I want to be able to use the keypad or number pad on my keyboard when typing numbers. I dont like using the numbers on the top of the character section of my keyboard.

I know I have to set up a specific env variable for this but I can remember how.

Any ideas?

Mine works with no env variable set - are you on a console ?

No I am not on a console.
On PC using "absolutetelnet" client.

That explains it - mine is set to vt220
