Turning on the engineering bit allows more items to be listed on menu 20. Ther are 2 ways to turn this on, debug and it can also be turned on by dialing in and entering a sequence of DTMF characters. I would like to know how to do this, either way is fine. I am trying to run garbage collect and it isnt currently available as a menu item. Thanks. ttown

You cannot turn the Eng Bit on through debug. If you call on the RDAC modem port, you will get some addtional options on menu 20, one of which, I think, is the option to run garbage collect.

OK, that worked. But, how do I turn the engineering bit on. Thanks.

If you call the rdac number you can run garbage collect from that menu you don't need the bit turned on. Are you trying to do somthing else ?

Ken, Yes I'm trying to do software updates and administer patches. But, I have to fork over a couple grand to have this turned on sinced the Lucent folks took over. I shouldn't have to pay this since I own the machines.

Im at 3.3 and this is an IMA/CA. It is a lucent product. It is a Big Avaya. I have made progress. I know there is a string of dtmf, 64 digits I think, these include the opentrees number and the serial number of the box. There is a program that the engineers at Lucent use to do this, but it can also be punched in manually. I tried capturing the digits when Lucent dialed in and turned the bit on but a Tberd-224 only grabs 17.

Help, Im going crazy not knowing how to do this.! ! !

Our company owns an Octel Sierra. I also need to know how to turn on the "Service option" that I guess to be what you call the "Engineering bit". Please did you finaly get it ?
No more, I know the phone number of the Octel TAC. The one noticed in the manual isn't correct any more. Do somebody have the last one ?

The garbage collect is possible in our machine without the "service option", but unfortunatly, changing translation tables isn't and I need to do it now.
Thanks .
