How can I tell if I'm running Win 98 versus Win 98 SE?

Try Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, and the General tab and see what that tells you.
I'm running 98se and it tells me that there.

You can also open up a DOS Prompt before completely booting up (or after booting up, either way is fine) and type:

ver

4.10.1998 = Windows 98 Retail Release
4.10.2222 = Windows 98 Second Edition

Cheers!

or try this:

Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>System Information.

First page and first line will tell you you're version number.
