Hello,
How can I tell if the data stored is compressed on the tapes in my silo? I am running a Magstar MP 3575 Tape Library with with Linear Tape C-Format XL cartridges.

What type of compression are you using?

If you are using hardware compression, then the drives will do the compressing of data.

Check to see how full the tape is when it is marked full against the tape capacity specs.

Sometimes, files will do reverse compression if the file is uncompressable. This means if you had a 1MB file that wasnt compressable, it might be 2MB on tape.

My system uses 3:1 compression and I noticed when I did a "q vol" command it lists the Estimated capicity in MB stored on each tape. I looks like the 5 GB tapes are storing almost 15 GB and the 7 GB tapes are storing almost 20 GB with compression. Looks like the compression is working .. Thanks for the help.
