Just kidding ;-) ... hey, it's Friday!

Greg.

Nice!!
I was getting worried there for a second. Mise Le Meas,

Mighty :)

Now, that's funny. I was getting ready to come in here and be rude for the first time ever (on tek-tips.)

Although, I must admit, I was kinda looking forward to it.

Someone tell me, since we're all laughing about this stuff, are there any other "repeat posts" that really get under your skin? You know, like this one where someone asks it like every couple of weeks? Kevin

Some repeat post can be annoying, when people should really read the boards before posting ... but I don't mind pointing people in the right direction ... everyone has to start learing somewhere!

What I find worrying though, and there seems to be an increasing number of threads directed towards this .. is the interest in restricting users navigation through the web. Posts like;

"How can I disable the BACK button", "How can I prevent a user from closing a window", stuff like that.

Part of the internet's "raison d'etre" is to allow freedom of movement wherever we want to go.

Now THAT gets under my skin!

Greg.

I couldn't agree more. Present the user with a page, what he or she does with it after that is their business.

The only time I can see restricting navigation is when you have a web-based app built for like a company intranet. Kevin

LOL Thanks, I needed that! It's nice to have a good chuckle on a Friday afternoon. Meddle not in the affairs of dragons,

hahah, funny stuff

Big time nodding in your direction grega.

Ill only limit things if its in the user's best interest... at the same time ill never do things that the user didn't specifically request.

Like a flash page really looks better fullscreen, and it wasn't built to be viewed at 300x300... so ill max the window and remove the status bar and all that clutter.. but they can close the window if they want, and im not going to popup 3 more with banners.

Id like to think that any standards we adopt, whether forced by acts of government like section 508 of the rehabilitation act:
or accepted industry wide as "good practice" would only increase the user's options, not restrict them. Accessibility is the goal here.

LOL !!! i didn't check out tt for 3 days .... happy to be back :)
thank you greg :))

How do I know which submit button was clicked?

How do I position a popup window?
