Meant to add - also try a keyword search for root password in this forum - it seems a common enough experience, judging by the number of threads returned!!
If your not running the shadow passwd bundle, and can log onto the machine as any user you may be able to view the /etc/passwd file, try cracking the root passwd.
If not the power off, wait a bit then back on.
At PDC interuppt the boot and type : boot
When asked if you want to interact with ISL type "y"
at ISL prompt type: hpux -is
This should take you to single user where you can change passwd.
Untrust and Trust HP server.
- for whatever reason the root passwd is lost... boot to single user mode and run ' /usr/lbin/tsconvert -r '.
After changing/reset the root password /usr/lbin/tsconvert -c ' to put back the trust.
I am having the same problems with my root password. I reset it. I tested it in another shell and had no problems. It worked great.
Now it doesn't. I've tried rebooting in the off chance that would reset something, but no luck. The weird thing is that I changed the passwords for other users as well and have acheived the same results.
I have tried logging in via single user mode, but after i get to the ISL prompt and type "hpux -is", I am prompted for a username and password.
Any suggestions are greatly appeciated. Thanks In Advance.
