I have lost contact from my VirtualCenter to one of my VMware ESX servers.
VC tells me: Server agent is not responding

How can I restart the server agent without rebooting the ESX server?

From a Putty session once you sudu in, type this:

service mgmt-vmware restart

This will restart the service on your host without any interuption to your guests. Safe to do at anytime, I've done it on several occasions.
