Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help me, they normally can:)

I've just created a new desktop pc, Athlon 1900+ 512DDR Elite Mobo.

I bought a new hard disk IBM 120GXP 7200rpm 60 GB ATA100, and put in my old hard disk 12 GB ATA 66

The old disk became 'c' and the new disk was partitioned into 'd' and 'e'. Windows XP was installed on 'e'.

Everything worked ok, but I realized then that the bus would only be at '66' and I was occ getting errors of 'SMART' command failed for disc 'c' the old Samsung hard drive.

So, I thought, I would replace drive 'c' (I can put it back into my old machine) and bought another IBM 120GXP this time 40GB,

How do I get this in as my primary drive on 'c' with boot files on it?

I don't want to have to reinstall windows and all the programs, I've got it set up great??, is this possible?

Cheers:) for any replies?

Joe

Just to add,

I've got it to dual boot, with a choice one into windows 98 (on old Samsung 'c' drive) and into windows Xp on 'e'

Not sure if this is relevant.

'Ghost'??

Is this Norton Ghost??? you're talking about, I've heard of it, not sure what it does??

Joe

Yeah. Allows you to create a duplicate across different size drives. You would ghost c: to the new on D:, then pull the c:, move the d: to c:, and put the original d: back on. Ed Fair

Thanks, that actually sounds straightfoward:)

Is there any way this can be done without purchasing Ghost?

For instance copying boot files across to 'd', then putting on the new hard drive, and with boot floppy copying them back to the new 'c' drive?
