How can I recompile kernel with a new nic card

Hello,
I'm running Freebsd 4.4 and my nic card has failed and I have changed that with a new 3com card.

But the system does not pic up the card automatically.

Do I have to recompile the kernel and if so how can I do that?

Any tips

Add following lines into your kernel configuration
---------------------------
device miibus
device xl
---------------------------
and then recompile your kernel.
