For some unknown reasons, the context menu did not popup when I right-click in IExplorer 5.5 in my system (Win98 SE , Celeron 900). Please asdvise how to fix this problem . Thanks...

Right-clicking on a link causes IE to read your Temporary Internet Files
index. Try deleting TIF's from Internet Options (select "delete all offline
content").

Since you are using W9x with a "reboot in DOS"*** option, I'd suggest deleting
the entire TIF folder, so the folder and its (probably corrupt) index.dat would be recreated on reboot.

Good Luck

PS...Start/Run/type msconfig/Ok/Advanced/Tick "Enable Starup Menu"/OK/OK.....reboot.
cd\Windows\Tempor~1
deltree/y content.ie5
cd.. gets you back to \Windowsdeltree/y history
If you want you can delete cookies and temp folders also but you will lose all cookies and have to MD a new temp directory which Windows needs..
CAD to restart, Windows, remember to go to msconfig/advanced and untick "enable start menu"

Thank you for your advice, Smitee. I followed your tips to the letter but still, the context menu failed to pop-up in IExplorer window . BTW, after cleaning up, I opened TIF and it was empty and I did not see index.dat . Is this normal ?Please give further instructions .Thanks

I have one track mind so am staying on your context menu problem before jumping into "index.dat" area...Have you checked:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Search right pane for NoViewContextMenu and if found modify its value to 0.

if still no joy the following keys are present in WinMe..not positive they are the same in Win98
look them over

and if still no context menu did you have shell trouble after last SecurityUpdate from Windows.?
as a long shot you might try using SFC to extract and replace shell32.dll

Hope this helps, please back up entire registry before

making any changes except the policy setting.

Good Luck

Thank you very much, Smitee , for your tips which I tried them all . Unfortunately, they did not bring back the context menu . In desperation, I reinstalled Win98 SE and by golly !, the context menu finally popped up. This defied logics and I sure did not figure out why !
Thanks again , Smitee.
