I'm running SuSE 8.0 on a Compaq PC. Very basic setup running SuSEfirewall2 Apache Sendmail and Fetchmail. This is the company Web and Email Server. No more info should be needed hopefully.

During setup I chose to disable the KDE screen. Now I realize I want some of the functionality that I can't get out of yast2. Is there any way of re-enabling the KDE desktop environment, or installing it without buggering up my current setup. Or downing the system for longer than a reboot.

Thanks in advance.

Why anyone would want to run KDE is beyond me but if you're really serious try looking at the file .xinitrc in you home directory.

Hi!:
First of all I am also running Suse 8.0 so I have a question.

When you were installing your operating system
1. Did you choose not to install X-Server support?
2.Did you unchecked the Kde desktop option?
3.Did you select login console instead of graphical login?

One of the best things about Suse, it really solves software dependencies so if something is missing you just need to use the software install option and It will solve all your problems!

If you chose the minimal install it's almost sure that you don't have X-server support, How could you know that? Does startx exists in you system? Or Does start-kde/startkde exists?

I you chose the minimal system you should do everything from yast first you need a X-server, a Desktop (Gnome,Kde)
If you are not able to see some option from the yast menu (something like printers) you can activate a lot of functions from the Install software option, checking first the yast options ?

I hope this helps
