I've created a new image for a windows 2000 laptop, and want to set one particular shortcut on the desktop to be read/execute only (basically, whoever I give the laptop to, I dont want that user to be be able to delete this particular shortcut). Problem is ive set permissions to read/execute for all users, and have changed the special permissions so that delete options are denied (ticked 'deny' in advance options in file security) but no matter what I do, it still allows a basic user to delete the shortcut from the desktop.

Any ideas.

Cheers,

Rich.

Right click on the shortcut, choose Properties, then go to the security tab and set the permissions there. Nate Gagne

I know !! This is what I already did !! I specified the settings I described in the first post through rgt-click, properties, security !!!

BUT IT DOESNT STOP DELETE BEING POSSIBLE !

HELP !!

Sorry, I misunderstood you.

Have you tried locking down the security on C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Desktop in general, or just the one shortcut? Nate Gagne

Just on this shortcut, because I want the desktop to be manageable by the user with the exception of this shortcut.

Put the shortcut in the "all users" profile. They do not have access to that area.

the path is (assuming c:\): C:\documents and settings\all users\desktop. If you've changed permissions to the all users profile - you should reexamine your security structuring.

Also - make sure there is no checkbox saying "allow inherited permissions to propogate to this object" in the security window.

That should do it for you..
