How can I open ports on my Firewall-1?

Here's the situation:

I have a Checkpoint Firewall-1. I have an Exchange Server. The Exchange Server is behind the firewall. I need people to be able to pull mail from the Exchange Server using IMAP or POP3 remotely.

I'm assuming that I need to open the ports applicable to POP3, SMTP, and IMAP on the firewall to do this. How do I go about ensuring those ports are open?

Can you guys recommend any good books on how to administer this thing? I'm a complete noob, and I kind of got shouldered with this responsibility. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Instead of going through all that, why not just setup OWA (Outlook Web Access) this way you will only have to open the HTTP port. This would also be more secure.

You would need to create a new rule or add the port to an existing rule which would allow HTTP to pass to the Exchange server.

Lou,

We actually already have OWA enabled. The problem is that the users are the ones demanding access to Outlook.

My boss is VERY fond of the idea of remotely enabling POP3 for a couple of reasons. One is to phase out the VPN. The other is for storage reasons on our Exchange server. We've already maxed out our 16 gig limit twice now. If I don't do something soon to alleviate the storage issues on our Exchange Server, I'll be in a bit of trouble.

Sorry if this seems rambling. I'm somewhat drunk right now. Feel free to email me directly @ jblack000@hotmail.com to discuss this more coherently. Thanks!
