How can I match on the first 5 characters of a name

I am trying to run a query based on name.
I have names in both tables that I am trying to match to.
How can I match on say the first 5 characters of the name?
I need a mid$([FieldName,1,5) somewhere?

WHERE Left(Table1.FieldName,5) = Left(Table2.FieldName,5)
