I have recently set up my own web site I have registered with google/yahoo and several other sites using "Hello Search Engines" I am aware that it could take several weeks to show, if at all. Could anyone talk me through the quagmire of robots, sitemaps etc. so I can make my site more visable. Plain english please as I am a complete novice
thanks

You don't need to do anything special to make your site accessible to search engines - they'll just follow links around your site like a human visitor.

There are things you could do to make it inaccessible - like using Java or Javascript instead of regular links, but you're not doing that so don't worry.

One thing to be aware of is that search engines are only really interested in text, which your site (perhaps understandably given its subject) has very little of. If you want to rank highly in the SE results, you're going to have to find more to say about your art/services/etc.
