I run OSX10.2 soon to upgrade to 10.2.4 but I wish to make a backup set of the original jaguar discs. is this possible,
Then I can keep the set at my daughters house in case I damage the originals.
thanks

Why are you always asking about copying CDs? Something sounds fishy. Personal (legal) CD backups are legal and possible with CD burning software.

Your requests sound fishy because you already posted that you were using 10.2.4 back on 3/12/2003 and 3/18/2003. How did you get back to 10.2? Or are you referring to your daughter's computer?

Have your daughter buy her own retail copy of the OS and quit using Tek-Tips for this kind of discussion.

You got your CD duplication replies in your previous post about Win98.

Excuse me Jimbo blak I had posted this ages ago if you look at the dates 09 03.03 which is before the dates you mentioned. , I didnt get a response so posted elsewhere, its not my fault nobody read this till .now.
My daughter has a PC and windows XP so there is nothing fishy going on here.
I do not believe in pirating software and pay my way even tho it means I have to wait sometimes to update,
In fact that is why I still have ME on my PC system. I just wanted to safeguard my jaguar having lost the 98 Cd so cant return to that version or do anything else. can you understand my problem.. so please look at details before you get at me.
My PC is stuck at the monet becasue I cant backup files due to problems with Roxio I cleaned out the registry entries and that hasnt helped. so I am waiting for a friend to have time to come help me.
I have used Tek-tips for a long time. trying to help others where I caould in my limited experience.
Sorry if you think I am doing soemthing I shouldtn.
but check first please. Using my PC Celeron111 433mhz, 30Gb+8GB 256 RAM WinME

My intent is not to 'get at' anyone.

Questions about copying CDs seem suspicious when the poster claims that they are upgrading to 10.2.4 when their previous posts state that they are already running 10.2.4. I am also confused by the tek-tips usernames of 'GrannySmith' and 'shirleyowl' apparently belonging to the same person. It is reasonable to suspect real intentions with info like this. - - Yes, I do check. This information came from your previous posts on tek-tips.

However, here's a tip...

Your signature lines indicate you have a CD burner on your Mac. Why don't you burn CDs on your Mac instead? I also have a PC & Mac at home but prefer to do most of my CD burning on the Mac. Roxio Toast (now up to version 5.2.1) on the Mac is much more versatile than the Roxio CD Creator on the PC. You can create Mac or PC (Joliet) CDs on the Mac. The PC version of Roxio does not natively burn Mac HFS CDs.

To duplicate your CDs for personal backup purposes, you need to make a disk image on yuor hard drive and then burn that disk image. This process is very easy with Roxio Toast.

You may also search versiontracker.com for a free program called 'bootx' (I think). This program will make a bootable OSX CD from your current installation. This bootable CD can also include drive utilities like Drive 10 to assist with recovering a failed system.

Oh thank you I was using the two names for my mail sorting reasons.
i will have a look at the programs you suggest. thanks for the input.

actually my feeling is the bootable CD for OS X is a bit of a mythical eldorado.

It is possible to copy an OS Xinstall disk disk but not easy.

Boot CD, hmmm, tell me someone out there that it works asit should, I doubt it. macmend can be found at

Yes, booting from a CD is very slow and is not perfect in OSX. But it is always nice to have an OSX boot CD sitting in your rescue kit.

I prefer to boot from an OS9 CD when I have OSX problems and need to wrangle with a stubborn file that will not delete.
