How can I link to a text file that doesn't have a TXT extension

I am trying to set up a table link to a series of files that do not have "txt", "asc" type extentions. The filenames are names of newsgroups actually.

How can I link directly to them? When I try to link to them, Access tells me "You cannot import a text file unless it has one of these extensions: txt, csv, tab, asc, tmp, htm, html."

I can probably devise a batch file that copies these files to other files which have this extension, but these files are quite large and numerous and this would add a lot of overhead as well as not allow me to do what I want to do in real time.

Any suggestions?
