I am trying to link a spreadsheet external to Access to a spreadsheet on an MS Access form. I need the spreadsheet in Access to look just like the external spreadsheet and be able to transfer data between the two spreadsheets. I have already tried several methods with no success. Any source code would be helpful.

Thanks

Go into the window containing your tables
file
get external data
link tables
and in the box that pops dont forget to change it excel as the type of file

Hope this helps

Access doesn't have a spreadsheet object. The datasheet looks like a spreadsheet but actually is fundementally different.

A spreadsheet is a set of varying fields which have positional importance. Relations are non-varying and have no positional information.

If you want a spreadsheet then add an Excel object to your record format. If the spreadsheet is already in a tabular format (as many spreadsheets are) then, as hymn implies, link directly to the spreadsheet and edit it in-place.

I was able to link my spreadsheet to Access but I can only get the data to display 1 record at a time. How can I get all of the records to display at the same time in an Excel spreadsheet. I have tried changing the control source to my linked spreadsheet but that didn't work.

What is a record format and how do I add an Excel object to it?

The easiest way to do this is with Microsoft Query, which is an add in to excel.

From Excel, go to Data > Get External Data > Create New Query. You will then be able to connect to any odbc data source already set up on your PC.

You may, however, find two problems here.

First - MSQuery may not be installed on your PC (It's under data access on custom instalation) or you may not have the MSQuery and ODBC connection add-ins selected, go to tools> add-ins to check this.

Secound problem will be that you probably won't have an odbc connection to the database on your PC - I can also tell you how to do this if required..

GHive it a go it's easier than you think
